History Little Billy Entertainment (LBE) is a New York City based nonprofit organization committed to utilizing the performing arts as an important medium for education, empowerment, community development, and cultural understanding. Born out of the New York City urban environment, LBE responds to the multifaceted needs of the American inner-city through the provision of community based initiatives and theatrical presentations of rhythm, dance, poetry and culture.
Little Billy Entertainment was conceived to reconnect professional artists with the inner-cities from which they hailed, inspiring community and encouraging art to remain connected to the people it was originally intended to serve. Specifically, it seeks to create a community-based environment that offers the quality and professionalism of "Broadway". LBE is committed to gathering New York City’s most talented urban artists to help establish and validate the “urban voice” as a significant and permanent part of the American culture. Why is the organization called "Little Billy"? Little Billy Entertainment is named after Founder William B. Johnson's childhood nickname. Upon deciding a name for the company, Johnson was immediately reminded of the uncompromised freedom and joy of his youth and how that is what he wanted to offer the world. Thus the name Little Billy Entertainment. | Mission Little Billy Entertainment is dedicated to: >> Developing and producing accessible, educational and entertaining theater productions that explore America’s dynamic and diverse inner-city experience; >> Producing and promoting the art of live performance; >> Instituting essential arts education initiatives to inner-city youth and developmental opportunities for emerging artists; >> Providing collaborative support to community-based arts organizations and artists.
